Lygia Cabral is a Brazilian visual artist based in Barcelona, Spain. With a background in Architecture, Graphic Design, and Visual Arts, her practice is situated within contemporary abstraction.

Through color, gesture, material, and texture, she investigates what emerges and what remains from our experiences. Her process is intuitive: the works do not begin with fully defined meanings, but reveal themselves during creation and often only afterward.

Memory, emotion, perception, and experience move through her work without being represented literally. By transforming them into abstract language, she allows meanings to remain open and extend beyond those she encounters during the creative process.

Lygia understands abstraction as a possibility for a universal language—not because a work evokes the same feeling or interpretation in everyone, but because it does not demand a single reading. Each viewer approaches the work through their own history, memories, emotions, and frame of reference.

More than communicating a specific message, she seeks to create works capable of forming connections, awakening something intimate, and allowing new meanings to emerge in the encounter between artwork and viewer.
